Course Specification Code:  9BS0 

Course Entry Requirements:  Grade 6 in Business. If not, they must have 5 GCSEs at Grade 6 and above including Maths and English.

Content - Year 12

Theme 1 - Marketing And People

In this theme, you are introduced to the market, explore the marketing and people functions and investigate entrepreneurs and business start-up.

Theme 2 - Managing Business Activities

In this theme, you will explore the finance and operations functions, and investigate external influences on business.

Content - Year 13

Theme 3 - Business Decisions And Strategy

In this theme, you will develop your understanding of the concepts introduced in Theme 2 and explore influences on business strategy and decision-making.

Theme 4 - Global Business

In this theme, you will develop your understanding of the concepts introduced in Theme 1 and explore business in a global context.

Assessment

Paper 1 – Marketing, people and global businesses - Exam 35%

Assesses marketing, people and global businesses. 

Questions will be drawn from Themes 1 and 4, and from local, national and global contexts.

Paper 2 – Business activities, decisions and strategy - Exam 35% 

Assesses business finance and operations, business decisions and strategy topics. 

Questions will be drawn from Themes 2 and 3, and from local, national and global contexts.

Paper 3 - Investigating business in a competitive environment – Exam 30%

Assesses content across all four themes.

Questions will be drawn from local, national and global contexts

There will be a pre-released case study on a particular industry or market in which businesses operate.

When studying A Level Business you will:

Gain an in-depth understanding of the business environment and develop commercial awareness. Use your knowledge and understanding and apply it to real-life business contexts.

Develop transferable skills that support higher education study and the transition to employment, including numeracy and communication.

Students can progress from this qualification to:

Higher education courses such as  business management, business administration, accountancy and finance, human resource management, marketing,    retail management, tourism management and international business.

A wide range of careers ranging from banking, sales, product management and general management to working in public sector organisations or charities.
